Northeast Washington Food Banks Receive Grants from Avista

December 20, 2011
Dec. 20, 2011: Six Northeast Washington community food banks are the recipients of grants as part of Avista’s year-end donation program. A total of $25,010 is being donated to food banks in Washington, Idaho and Oregon by Avista and the Avista Foundation. In Northeast Washington the recipients are the Loon Lake Food Pantry and Resource Center, Addy Rescue Mission, Senior Citizens of Chewelah Valley, Colville Volunteer Food and Resource Center, Kettle Falls Community Chest, and Northport Food Bank. Funding for these donations comes from foundation funds and company profits. It is not included as a cost to customers in developing retail rates.
“Community food banks are providing vital safety net services in the communities we serve. Through theirbuying power and relationships with food producers, the food banks are able to leverage donations like ours to bring several times their value to help stock the shelves for those in need,” said Kermit Olson, Avista’s manager for Colville operations. “Helping limited income families and seniors meet their nutritional needs is an important part of our emphasis on providing assistance to reduce poverty in the communities served by Avista Utilities.”
